“ I wanted to reach out to let you know I received my care package yesterday. THANK YOU! Within a few minutes of just glancing through it yesterday I have seen a lot that grabbed me. I am now sitting here reading the packet. I have it ready to carry every where I go.” - Mickey “I received my package yesterday. What a sweet surprise! I needed a mile on my face. trying to stay strong but sometimes I just break down. What a horrible disease this is. I’m afraid we have a tough road ahead of us. My honey is only 61 years old. No one deserves this!!” -Janice “I just got done reading all the information in your care package, next I will pass this along to my mom and my sister! This is great information and is extremely helpful. I’m eagerly starting the book today too! You both are doing such a wonderful job in spreading awareness and I too plan to do the same in the future. I believe my dad is in the late stage, coincidentally his name is Louie (thankfully spelled different than “screwy Lewy”). My mom had a stroke 3 years ago yet she loves to read so having this in writing is going to help her understand. I’m sure your dad was an amazing dad, it shows in all the work you are doing to help others manage this horrible disease! THANK YOU!” - Lisa “Our package arrived today. Thank you so much. It’s such a wonderful thing you are doing. I truly appreciate all of the information. Hopefully my daughters will find it helpful too. A package is placed on a porch. A caregiver opens it after a long day. Inside are resources, encouragement, and a reminder that someone understands what they are carrying. That moment matters more than most people realize.
Each care package includes thoughtfully selected resources to educate, guide, and support families navigating Lewy Body Dementia. Recipients receive informational packets, practical caregiving tools, advocacy guidance, a child-friendly book to help younger family members understand the disease, and an in-depth caregiver guide for adults seeking clarity and support.
Families facing Lewy Body Dementia are often carrying far more than others can see. They may be navigating confusing symptoms, sudden changes in behavior or cognition, difficult medical appointments, and the emotional weight of watching someone they love change over time. Many caregivers are doing all of this while trying to keep daily life moving forward.
It is common for families to feel overwhelmed, isolated, and unsure where to turn for reliable guidance. Because Lewy Body Dementia is not always well understood, many people spend months or even years searching for answers, support, and validation.
That is why these care packages matter so deeply. Inside each package is practical information that can help families better understand the road ahead. There are resources that can ease uncertainty, tools that can help caregivers feel more prepared, and encouragement that reminds them they are not facing this alone.
There is also something harder to measure, but equally important.
Sometimes the greatest gift is not just receiving resources. It is knowing that someone, somewhere, understands what you are going through.
Over time, we have received hundreds of messages from families sharing what these packages meant to them.
They tell us:
Those words remind us that support does not have to be grand to be powerful. Sometimes a small gesture creates a lasting impact.
Compassion can start anywhere. A single package mailed from one Midwestern town can reach a family on another continent. A small act of kindness can travel farther than we ever imagine.
What began in Columbia, Missouri has reached families across the globe. This month alone, we mailed nine care packages. In one recent shipment, packages were sent to Scotland, the United Kingdom, Australia, and Canada.
What started as a simple act of support has grown into something much bigger.
It has become a connection.
It has become education.
It has become hope.
If you or someone you know is caring for a loved one with Lewy Body Dementia, we invite you to visit our website and request a care package.
Because no caregiver should have to walk this journey alone. https://lewybodyawareness.org/care-package/

The Larry Gross Lewy Body Dementia Awareness Foundation mails care packages all over the world. We recently mailed one to a woman caring for her husband with LBD. These packages are designed to offer resources, comfort, and a small sense of relief to those facing the challenges of caregiving. However, this particular package became something much more than we could have imagined.

Initially meant for a caregiver’s mother, the care package was misdelivered—sent to an entirely different town due to a labeling mix-up. The woman who received it had just lost her husband to LBD one month ago and was having a particularly difficult day. When she opened the package and saw the book inside, she was momentarily stunned. Who could have sent her this now, of all times?
Then, she noticed the handwritten address and realized the package wasn’t meant for her. Instead of mailing it back, something inside her urged her to deliver it in person. She knew what it was like to feel lost in this journey, and she wished she had received something like this when she was caring for her husband.
With tears in her eyes and shaking hands, she knocked on the door of the woman who was supposed to receive the package.
The two women—both strangers, both deeply affected by Lewy Body Dementia—stood on the porch, talking, crying, and bonding over their shared pain and experience. Their conversation ended in a hug and the exchange of phone numbers. In that moment, two caregivers found comfort in each other, connected by loss, love, and an illness that had reshaped their lives.

Caregiving for someone with Lewy Body Dementia is often an isolating experience. It is filled with long days, difficult moments, and a deep longing for the person who is still physically there but slipping away.
This story is a powerful reminder that small acts—like sending a care package—can have a ripple effect beyond what we can ever predict. The packages we send are more than books, and resources. They are lifelines. They remind caregivers that they arenot alone, that their struggle is seen, and that there are others who understand their pain.
Our nonprofit, founded in honor of our father Larry Gross, aims to support, educate, and provide resources for caregivers and families affected by Lewy Body Dementia. We do this because we know firsthand how difficult this journey can be.
We don’t want any family to feel as lost as we once did.
This story is just one of many that show the profound impact of community, support, and sometimes, what feels like divine intervention. It reminds us why we must continue to spread awareness and be there for those walking this path.
If you or someone you know is caring for a loved one with LBD, we encourage you to seek support, reach out, and remember: you are never alone.
Join us in raising awareness for Lewy Body Dementia. Share this story, support a caregiver, and help us continue making a difference.
